The One with Ross’s Thing

“Ross’ issue involves an unidentified condition on his derrière. Neither he, Chandler, nor Joey can determine its nature, and a number of conventional doctors are also stumped. Consequently, Phoebe directs him to Guru Saj, her herbalist, for insight. Although Guru Saj cannot precisely identify the problem, he resolves it without the use of any form of medicine. Meanwhile, Pete hints to Monica that he has significant news. When Joey learns that Pete has spent $50,000 on a ring designer, the idea of an engagement ring surfaces. Initially, Monica thinks she would decline if Pete proposes, but the possibility of accepting becomes increasingly appealing. However, the proposal must occur first. In another romantic subplot, Phoebe is simultaneously dating two men: Vince, the robust fireman, and Jason, the sensitive kindergarten teacher. She appreciates them both for their distinct qualities. Yet, juggling two relationships becomes taxing, prompting her to consider ending one. The decision becomes even more challenging when she discovers Vince’s sensitive side and Jason’s impressive physique. Ultimately, when Phoebe remains undecided, the two men meet and make the decision for her.”

Did you know ?!

• The poster on the Guru’s door is the same acupuncture poster that Phoebe has in her massage parlor in other episodes.
• Robert Gant and Matt Battaglia, portraying the two men vying for Phoebe’s affections, would go on to have regular (Gant) or recurring (Battaglia) roles on Queer as Folk (2000).
• Phoebe’s orange T shirt with a sunflower is from the French fashion house Morgan. The writing says: “Le tournesol nous fait tourner la tête.” – “The sunflower makes our head turn” followed by “Beaucoup. Passionement. A la folie.” – “A lot. Passionately. Till madness” – French variations on the loves-me, loves-me-not motif). It includes Morgan’s famous slogan “Je suis Morgan de toi” – “I am Morgan about you”. Morgan was founded in 1947 by 2 women to sell lingerie, and later expanded to women’s clothing. In 1996, when Phoebe was wearing the T-shirt, Morgan targeted urban women 18-35 as sexy and proud of it: its main advertisement theme was seductiveness.
• Jason (Robert Gant) and Dr. Rhodes (Richard Gant) are played by unrelated actors with the same last name.
• When Phoebe goes to break up with Vince at the firehouse, the fireman she first talks to is the same guy that appears in the porno “Buffay, the Vampire Layer” with Phoebe’s sister, Ursula.
