Pierce Brosnan fined for walking off trail in Yellowstone National Park thermal area

Mammoth, Wyo. — Actor Pierce Brosnan faced legal repercussions after venturing off a trail in a thermal area during a visit to Yellowstone National Park last November, court records revealed. The former James Bond star, who phoned into the court hearing in Mammoth, Wyoming, was fined $500 and directed to make a $1,000 donation to Yellowstone Forever by April 1st.

Despite prosecutors recommending a $5,000 fine and a two-year probationary sentence, U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie Hambrick dismissed a second petty offense charge for violating closures and use limits.

In a heartfelt apology shared on his Instagram account, Brosnan acknowledged his “impulsive mistake” and affirmed his status as an environmentalist deeply committed to preserving the natural world. Expressing regret for trespassing in the sensitive area, he emphasized the importance of caring for and preserving national parks like Yellowstone for future generations, signing off with the hashtag #StayOnThePath.

The incident occurred at Mammoth Terraces, a picturesque location featuring mineral-encrusted hot springs bubbling from a hillside. Despite its allure, straying off designated trails in such areas poses significant dangers, with numerous visitors sustaining burns each year by disregarding warning signs.

Brosnan, known for his iconic roles in James Bond films, “Remington Steele,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and “The Thomas Crown Affair,” found himself in hot water after posting images of himself standing in the snow on the thermal feature to his Instagram page.

As Yellowstone’s millions of annual visitors can attest, venturing off-trail can not only result in legal consequences but also pose serious risks to personal safety and environmental preservation.
