Paul Anderson, best known for his role as Arthur Shelby in the critically acclaimed TV series Peaky Blinders, is set to star in the upcoming WWII action-thriller Immortal. Anderson joins Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, renowned for his previous works Rare Exports and Big Game, who will direct the film set to begin production in Lapland, Finland this September.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) has secured the global distribution rights outside of the Nordic region, with Nordisk Film acquiring the rights within the Nordic territories.
About the Film:
Immortal is set in 1945 and tells the gripping story of Aatami, an ex-soldier played by Jorma Tommila, a longtime collaborator of Helander. Aatami stumbles upon a hidden stash of gold deep within the harsh wilderness of Lapland. His attempt to transport the loot to the city is met with brutal opposition when a squadron of Nazi soldiers led by a ruthless SS officer, portrayed by Paul Anderson, stands in his way. A deadly battle ensues as Aatami fights to protect his treasure, leading to a thrilling clash between the lone soldier and the Nazi forces.

Immortal is produced by Petri Jokiranta through Subzero Film Entertainment, who also produced Helander’s previous films. Mike Goodridge, Gregory Ouanhon, and Antonio Salas serve as executive producers. The film will be shot in English, with some scenes in Finnish, and is supported by the Finnish Film Foundation, Business Finland – Audiovisual Production Incentive, and MTV Cmore.

Paul Anderson, whose career spans notable roles in films such as Oscar-winning The Revenant, Scott Cooper’s Hostiles, Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea, and Yann Demange’s ’71, has also completed work on Guillermo Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley, alongside Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper, and Rooney Mara.
In discussing the project, Helander shared his excitement: “To make an action film in Finland has been a dream of mine since I was 10 years old. I’m thrilled to finally have the opportunity to create an epic, action-packed survival story set in World War II. Immortal is the kind of film I’ve always wanted to make.”
Helander’s debut feature Rare Exports (2010) was widely praised, winning multiple festival awards, including at Locarno, Brussels, and Sitges. His second film, Big Game (2014), which starred Samuel L. Jackson and Jim Broadbent, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and garnered worldwide attention.
