Hailing from New Orleans, Pauley Perrette gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of the quirky forensic scientist Abby Sciuto on NCIS for 15 seasons, introduced to audiences on JAG in 2003.
Prior to her iconic role on NCIS, Perrette’s acting credits included appearances on The Drew Carey Show, Dawson’s Creek, and Almost Famous.
As her final season on NCIS approached in 2018, Perrette reflected on Abby’s impact, particularly on young female viewers. During an interview on The Talk, she highlighted how her character made math and science “a viable plan” that was both “accessible” and “fun,” inspiring real-life individuals to pursue degrees in science and math.
However, Perrette departed the series in May 2018 after 15 seasons, citing “multiple physical assaults” on set in a series of social media posts. She alleged that the “publicity ‘machine’ ” had kept her silent about these incidents.
In response, CBS Television Studios confirmed that Perrette had raised a “workplace concern” more than a year prior and stated that they took the matter seriously.
The following year, Perrette returned to television with a new CBS sitcom, Broke, in 2020. Despite her comeback, the series was canceled after one season. Shortly afterward, Perrette announced her retirement from acting on social media.
In 2022, Perrette revealed to PEOPLE that she had suffered a massive stroke at age 53, but she had since recovered and was “super healthy.”
Perrette was previously married to musician Francis “Coyote” Shivers from 2000 to 2006. She was engaged to cameraman Michael Bosman around 2008, but they parted ways before tying the knot.
