“Montana Club’s Final Bow: A Tale Straight from the Pages of ‘Yellowstone’”

The century-old club, in Helena, had a celebrated Black bartender and a membership of Montana’s biggest movers and shakers.

Montana Club, a historic establishment in Helena, founded in 1885, will close its doors on March 29 due to financial difficulties. Once a gathering place for influential figures, including descendants of Montana’s founders and prominent guests like Theodore Roosevelt, the club faced bankruptcy in 2018. Notably, bartender Julian Anderson, who worked there for 60 years starting in 1893, made culinary history with his 1919 cocktail book. Despite the closure, there’s hope for a revival, with potential buyers interested. The farewell event on March 29 will feature mint juleps, a nod to Anderson’s legacy.”
