EXCLUSIVE: The Banshees of Inisherin Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan has joined the cast of Netflix’s Peaky Blinders feature. The Saltburn actor is the latest high-profile name set opposite star Cillian Murphy in the Tom Harper-directed film. Last month, Deadline exclusively revealed that Rebecca Ferguson also is aboard.
Barry Keoghan has joined the cast of the upcoming “Peaky Blinders” movie for Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He’ll star alongside Cillian Murphy, who reprises his role as Thomas Shelby, and Rebecca Ferguson.
Keoghan is known for his acclaimed performances in films like “Saltburn” and “The Banshees of Inisherin.” The new movie continues the story from the popular “Peaky Blinders” series, which follows Shelby, a war hero turned gangster in 1900s Birmingham, England. While many details about the film are still under wraps, it promises to build on the series’ legacy.
The script is written by the show’s creator, Steven Knight, and the film will be directed by Tom Harper, who directed some episodes in the series’ first season. Knight will also co-produce the film along with Caryn Mandabach, Murphy, and Guy Heeley.
When the film was announced, Murphy expressed excitement about returning to the role of Tommy Shelby, saying, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.” Knight added that he’s thrilled the movie is happening and promises it will be a thrilling continuation of the “Peaky Blinders” story.
Harper shared his enthusiasm too, recalling the early days of the series and emphasizing its focus on family. He looks forward to bringing this next chapter to audiences around the world on Netflix.
