Cole Hauser, star of the hit series Yellowstone, recently opened up about his parenting dynamic with his three children—daughter Steely Rose, 11, and sons Ryland, 20, and Colt, 16. Hauser shares his kids with his wife, Cynthia Daniel, and admits there’s a stark difference in how he approaches raising his daughter compared to his boys.
On a November 7 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Hauser humorously confessed that Steely has him “wrapped around her finger.”
“I love her so much that it’s hard for me to say no to anything,” Hauser revealed. “But as she’s getting older, I’m trying to be more cautious about giving her everything she asks for.”
When asked if he was as lenient with his sons, Hauser responded with a definitive, “No.” He laughed as he explained, “They get nothing. ‘Go to work, do what I tell you to do, go play sports.’ It’s just totally different.”
His wife, Cynthia, often teases him about Steely’s ability to get her way. “She’s got you wrapped around her finger,” she tells him, a sentiment Hauser acknowledges with a smile.
Balancing Family and a Demanding Career
Hauser has previously opened up about the challenges of balancing fatherhood with his demanding work schedule, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was filming the fourth season of Yellowstone.
“It’s been a little rough over the last couple of years because I’m away for five months at a time,” he told PEOPLE in 2020. However, the time apart has allowed his family to adapt and support one another.
“My boys really step up when I’m gone,” he shared. “They make sure mom and Steely are looked after, and I’m proud of them for that. That’s how I raised them.”
Hauser also emphasized the importance of cherishing family time. “It’s a reminder of how vital it is to take advantage of the moments you have with your loved ones.”
A Daughter’s Charm and Sons’ Responsibility
While Steely’s charm may make it difficult for Hauser to resist her requests, his approach with Ryland and Colt reflects a more traditional and disciplined parenting style.
Yellowstone fans will see Hauser return to the small screen as Rip Wheeler when the series premieres its next episode on Sunday, November 10, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the Paramount Network. Despite his rugged character on-screen, Hauser’s heart clearly belongs to his family, with his daughter Steely leading the charge as “the boss” of their household.
