Cillian Murphy makes major life move after making ‘too hectic’ admission

Murphy’s success as the first Irish-born actor to win for a leading role at the Oscars has brought too many lookie-loo’s at his family’s townhouse in Dublin.

Cillian Murphy is set to sell his townhouse in Dublin.

Murphy is known for living a quiet life with his wife and two sons at his townhouse in Monkstown, but a source just revealed to the Irish Mail that the actor is planning on moving.

Given Murphy’s recent sky-rocket to fame after his Oscar win, the source said that the townhouse has not been a private enough location for the star and his family.

According to the source, his living quarters there have become “too hectic” as fans stopped by hoping to see the actor.

The source added that some fans wait for the star to enter and leave his residence to catch a glimpse, while others have taken to looking through the windows.

The majority of stalkers at Murphy’s home were ‘lots of middle-aged women’ but ‘no necessarily what you would think of as groupies’, the source said. Reportedly, Murphy will still stay in the area, he is just looking for a residence with more privacy.

The Dublin townhouse offered limited privacy, as it open directly onto a public street. While he looks for a new residence, he is planning on finding a space with a perimeter boundary.

Murphy lived in London for 14 years before moving to Dublin for his sons in 2015. “It’s kind of an Irish story, you know, to move away, do your own thing and then come home,” he said on the Armchair Expert podcast in 2022.

“That seems to to be a common narrative for Irish people. We wanted the kids to be Irish, and they were sort of at that age where they they were preteens and they had very posh English accents and I wasn’t appreciating that too much.”

Murphy added that given his parents age, it was a “nice time” to go home.

The Irishman also said that his move from London to Dublin was the correct decision.

“Moving home from London was the best thing we did,” he said. “We have a nice little normal life here, and I love it.”

Murphy bought the two-story victorian townhouse in 2015 for $1.8 million.
