Following the six-season success of Peaky Blinders from 2013 to 2022, Steven Knight hinted in 2021 that a film could further explore the complex lives of these characters. After wrapping up the sixth series, Knight began developing this new chapter, focusing on Tommy Shelby’s journey, and in early 2024 confirmed Murphy’s return.
In addition to Murphy, who has expressed his enthusiasm for revisiting his character if the story was “right,” the film brings together a dynamic cast. Production began in September 2024 at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham, a fitting tribute to the show’s roots. Filming locations include historical sites across West Midlands, as well as St Helens in Merseyside, where a former industrial site sets the scene for some pivotal moments in the film.
Knight has assembled an experienced team of producers, including Caryn Mandabach, Murphy himself, and Guy Heeley, promising an immersive continuation of the Peaky Blinders legacy.
