Tom Selleck Emotional on ‘Blue Bloods’ Finale: Co-Star Donnie Wahlberg Shares Touching Moments

Donnie Wahlberg recently shared that his co-star Tom Selleck was moved to tears during the filming of the “Blue Bloods” finale. “He’s really tall, standing in the back corner just watching with tears in his eyes. It was like the waterworks turned on,” Donnie recalled on Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen Live. “I could literally cry just thinking about it.”

Wahlberg, who played NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, reflected on the deep bond he developed with Selleck, who portrayed Danny’s father, Commissioner Frank Reagan. He emphasized their collaborative dynamic, stating, “I don’t show up and go, ‘Tell me what to do, Tom.’ We have a back-and-forth… there’s a process, and he respects what I bring to the table, as I do him.”

As for the finale itself, Donnie teased that fans would be pleased with how the series concludes, noting, “There’ll be a lot of tears. I think the same kind we had, but there’s a very sad scene in the middle of the final episode that will be emotional. It feels like a finale, but a hopeful one.”

Reflecting on the last day of filming, Donnie mentioned Tom’s frustrations about the show ending after 14 successful seasons. In an interview with TV Insider, Tom expressed his disappointment: “I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for ‘Blue Bloods’ but about it still being wildly successful… We were No. 6 in the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 if you discount football shows!”

Despite his sadness over the show’s cancellation, Tom maintained a positive outlook. “I don’t believe in holding grudges,” he stated. “The show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.”

When asked what he would miss most about “Blue Bloods,” Selleck said, “The actors. The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters they play. There isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back. It’s something for everybody to hang their hats on and be proud of.”
