The Oscar-winning actor was seen riding on the back of a black horse dressed as iconic gangster Tommy Shelby as he reprised his role on the streets of Birmingham.
Cillian, 48, was covered in mud with a large bloody cut on his face as he rode the horse past crowds of extras dressed in period costume while filming for the highly anticipated movie continues.
Cillian was first scene back as Tommy in a posed still which was released last month as he sat down with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to discuss the project.
The Netflix backed movie has seen an array of big-name stars including Dune star Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and fellow Irish actor Barry Keoghan who many now believe will play Tommy’s son with dead wife Grace, Charles.
While no plotline or new characters have been confirmed Tom Harper who directed episodes of the show’s first series is also returning for the project and it has been revealed it will be set in the WWII era.
Knight told Netflix: “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
Knight has claimed that whatever happens it will be “explosive” with viewers expecting no less from the gripping series.
He has also teased that there could be more from the Peaky’s in the future – but without Tommy Shelby – in the form of a spin-off with one of the other characters starring in the film.
Harper said: “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive.”
He continued: “Peaky has always been a story about family and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.
“There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew. We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”
Cillian previously shared an image of his script on Instagram as he confirmed his return to the role writing: : “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.
“It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
