The One Where Chandler Crosses the Line

Chandler encounters Kathy in a compromising situation and feels tormented, believing she reciprocates his feelings. Joey, meanwhile, has a date with another woman, presenting Chandler with an opportunity to dissuade Joey from pursuing Kathy further. Phoebe learns of Ross’s past as a keyboardist and becomes intrigued by his unique “sound,” which consists of a series of sound effects such as ringing bells, crashing glass, and helicopter noises. Although everyone else dislikes Ross’s music, Phoebe encourages him to perform publicly.
Kathy cuts Chandler’s hair, leading to a kiss between them. Despite Chandler’s insistence that they must suppress their feelings for Joey’s sake, Kathy is unable to comply. Ross performs at Central Perk, only to see the audience leave. Chandler purchases new furniture for himself and Joey, only to discover that Joey remains interested in Kathy and intends to deepen their relationship. Phoebe, feeling inadequate compared to Ross, decides to quit music, prompting Ross to abandon his own musical pursuits in support of her. Ultimately, Chandler confesses to Joey that he kissed Kathy, resulting in Kathy ending her relationship with Joey, who is left furious.
