The One Where Joey Moves Out

Phoebe persuades Rachel to get a tattoo, despite Ross’s disapproval. At Jack Geller’s birthday party, Dr. Richard Burke struggles to hear comments about his unspecified date, while Monica is embarrassed when accidentally hearing about hers. The situation escalates when she inadvertently overhears her parents being intimate in the bathroom. Following a minor disagreement over sharing personal belongings, including soap, Joey contemplates moving out of Chandler’s apartment to live independently for the first time, prompted by a lucrative contract and another actor upgrading to a more luxurious residence

• Rachel gets a tattoo on her hip in this episode and it is never mentioned again.
• Jack says: “It looks like a scene from Cocoon”, Courteney Cox appeared in Cocoon: The Return (1988), the sequel of Cocoon (1985).
• The first episode with Joey’s name in the title.
• When Judy says Richard has got himself a Twinkie in the city this is likely a reference to to the 1970 film Twinkie (Lola) about a 38 yr old novelist Charles Bronson who runs off and marries and sets up home with a 16 year old schoolgirl Susan George
• At Jack’s birthday party he has a signed Harmon Killebrew baseball bat. Killebrew played for the Minnesota Twins who are at times called “The Twinkes” the same nickname unknowingly given to Monica for dating the much older Richard.
• Rachel’s tattoo would be wrapped.
• Joey tell Chandler he’s 28 and has never lived alone. In season 1 episode 23 (The one with the birth) Joey tells Lisa Remini’s character’s mother that he is 25
• When Monica mentions “that video that I found of mom and dad that one time”, she is referring to her parents sex tape at the end of the prom video from The One with the Prom Video (S02E14).
• While Phoebe picks out which lily to get tattooed she mentions Foghorn Leghorn. Foghorn Leghorn is the name of a Warner Brothers cartoon rooster.
• Judy asks Richard if his son was single to go out with Monica. After Monica and Richard break up, she ends up dating him.
• When Joey and Chandler are arguing about who gets to keep the Foosball table, Chandler makes an inappropriate joke to which Joey replies asking “which sister”. This foreshadows S03E11 The One Where Chandler Can’t Remember Which Sister.
• Rachel is the only one of all the characters who never lived alone throughout the series. In Season 2 Episode 16, Joey moves out of Chandler’s apartment until the end in episode 19.
• Joey mentions one of his co-stars who’s character is in a coma. In season 7, Joey’s character is in a coma.
