How one of Cillian Murphy’s most intense scenes from Peaky Blinders became the meme of the century…
CONTINUE READING….Cillian Murphy is currently the name on everyone’s lips. With the Oscars only two weeks away, anticipation is running high, and Murphy is at the very front end of the race. Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, is a favorite this season, and so it the Irish actor who led the film to success. Currently having to sit through numerous interviews before Oscar season kicks in, Cillian Murphy is opening up about his previous projects and upcoming ones.
Before the 47-year-old actor found fame as J. Robert Oppenheimer, he was the most loved gangster from the 1920s, in all of Birmingham. Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about the BBC drama, Peaky Blinders, which gave us Cillian Murphy’s brilliant portrayal of Thomas Shelby. Recently, the actor talked about one of the most famous scenes from the show.
Remember the “No f*cking fighting” scene from Peaky Blinders? It was probably one of the most intense, spine-chilling moments from the show. A scene that gave us Cillian Murphy really going for it, as he got on everyone’s faces, showing them who’s the boss as anger radiated off of him. In his recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Murphy said,
“I remember there was a stage direction in that scene, and it said, ‘This is the angriest we’ve ever seen Tommy Shelby.’ So again, it gives you license to go ‘Let’s go for it!’”
“It was brilliantly written. And it was kind of- it was funny, but it also like he meant, he meant it.”
Cillian Murphy absolutely nailed the scene, as he embodied Tommy Shelly’s anger and ruthlessness brilliantly, giving us one of the best scenes in the show.
How An Intense Scene Turned Into The Meme of All Memes
To give you some context, the “No f*cking fighting” meme came out of nowhere. The scene, which was funny but intense, showed a nervous but take-one-step-out-of-line-and-I-might-kill-you Tommy, who is making sure everything goes right on his wedding day. Grace, played brilliantly by Annabelle Wallis, is the love of his life, and he wants to make their special day perfect. And for that, he needs to make sure everyone is on their best behavior. And given that his whole family is effectively a bunch of hooligans, that is a little difficult to attain.
Cillian Murphy, who loves a good meme, got to know that one of his most intense scenes from the show became the meme of all memes from his kids.
“Like my kids, show me,” he said in yhe podcast. “And it’s kind of, it gets used for every out of context, you know. But its just, I think it’s great. Its a great reflection on the show, and the writing, and the direction.”
- Trying to make the best of it, the actor praised the brilliant writing and direction of the show. And how a funny yet intense scene has found its place in the Halls of Fame of Internet Memes.
