Just like many fans, Tom Selleck isn’t quite ready to bid farewell to Blue Bloods.
The enduring police procedural, which premiered in September 2010 and has seen 14 remarkable seasons, is slated to conclude in fall 2024. However, in an interview with TV Insider ahead of the season 14 premiere, Selleck, who portrays police commissioner Frank Reagan and serves as an executive producer, expressed his reluctance to part ways with the Friday-night staple.
Discussing the impending end of the series, Selleck remarked, “CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it. We’re certainly not out of ideas.”
Despite being 79 years old, Selleck isn’t contemplating retirement anytime soon. “I’m not counting the days so I can do something else,” he emphasized. “I love the work. Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what? I want to work as long as they’ll have me.”
As the series finale looms, the exact conclusion of the show remains uncertain. Executive producer Kevin Wade disclosed to USA Today that the writers had yet to finalize the perfect ending for the series. He acknowledged the challenge of delivering a satisfying and emotional final episode while ensuring the characters evolve and the storyline remains compelling.
Selleck hinted at the possibility of Blue Bloods extending beyond the currently planned finale, stating, “They say it’s an eight-episode wind-down, and I say, ‘We’ll see.’” While acknowledging the uncertainty, he remains committed to doing what’s best for the show’s legacy.
Selleck’s forthcoming memoir, titled “You Never Know,” prompts speculation about the future of Blue Bloods. Only time will reveal whether the beloved series concludes as planned or if unexpected developments lie ahead.
