Yellowstone actor Josh Lucas has provided an update on the return of young John Dutton in Season 5 Part 2 of the Western drama series. Initially premiering in 2018, Yellowstone revolves around the tumultuous relationships within the Dutton family and their ongoing conflicts over land. Lucas portrays the younger version of Kevin Costner’s character and has appeared sporadically throughout the series, including in Season 5.
As Season 5 Part 2 is set to conclude the series, and amid reports of behind-the-scenes tensions between Costner and series creator Taylor Sheridan, there has been speculation regarding the extent of John Dutton’s presence. However, Lucas indicated in a recent interview with Deadline that young John Dutton is likely to still be featured in the upcoming episodes. According to Lucas, Sheridan has suggested the character’s return, and Season 5 will consist of “10 or more so episodes.”
In his statement to Deadline, Lucas shared his enthusiasm for working on the show and referenced his communication with Sheridan, who assured him of the series’ continuation. He quoted Sheridan as saying, “well we’ll be back,” indicating a sense of assurance regarding the future of the series and his character’s involvement.
