The estranged couple’s relationship has been terminated as of 16 February
Kevin Costner’s divorce from his estranged wife Christine Baumgartner has been officially finalized, marking the conclusion of a contentious chapter in their lives.
Court documents obtained by People reveal that on Friday, February 16, lawyers representing Baumgartner filed papers in a Santa Barbara, California, court to excuse both parties from a court-mandated co-parenting class, effectively bringing their marriage to an end. This development comes after the pair reached a joint custody agreement for their three children back in September of the previous year, settling the majority of their ongoing disputes.
In her filing, Baumgartner cited April 11 as the date of her separation from the actor. A representative for Costner expressed sadness over the circumstances surrounding the divorce, emphasizing the need for privacy as the family navigates through this challenging time.
During a two-day court case in August, a judge set Costner’s monthly payments to his ex-wife at $63,209, the amount initially proposed by Costner and his legal team. This decision followed Baumgartner’s request for significantly higher monthly payments, jumping from the tentative figure of $129,755 ordered by the court during proceedings.
Costner, expressing his concerns on the stand, emphasized the importance of ensuring that the child support payments align with the needs of his children and their mother, Christine.
The former couple first crossed paths at a golf course while Costner was rehearsing for his 1996 romantic comedy “Tin Cup.” After reconnecting in 1998, they eventually tied the knot in 2004 at Costner’s sprawling ranch, The Dunbar, in Aspen, Colorado.
Prior to his marriage to Baumgartner, Costner was married to Cindy Silva for 16 years before their divorce in 1994. They share three adult children: Annie, Lily, and Joe. Additionally, Costner has a son named Liam with Bridget Rooney, whom he dated between his marriages to Silva and Baumgartner.
