HOUSTON, Texas. (Gray News) – A 114-year-old Houston woman just achieved something amazing.
Ms. Elizabeth Francis became the oldest living person in the US, according to LongeviQuest. She became the oldest living American after the death of 116-year-old Edie Ceccarelli in California.
Currently, she’s the fifth oldest living person in the world.
Former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, about Ms. Francis. He said each year he loves to visit her and celebrate her birthday.
Even though she lived most of her life in Texas, Francis was born in Louisiana in 1909. After her mother died, she and her five siblings were sent to different homes. Elizabeth was sent to Houston where she was raised by her aunt.
Living a long life seems to run in her family. Her sister, Bertha Johnson, lived up to 106 until she passed away in 2011. The sisters are among the sibling pairs with the oldest combined age in world history.
Francis has always credited her long-lasting life to God. When asked for life advice, she said everyone should speak their mind.
“If the Good Lord gave it to you, use it. Speak your mind, don’t hold yo
