When arriving back in England, the couple purchased their house on the newly imagined Stonehouse Estate and moved in on its completion. Son after in 1957, their only son Colin was born.
Speaking about his parent’s anniversary, Colin said: ”The whole family is incredibly proud of Mum and Dad for reaching this amazing milestone. It’s a real enduring love story.”
He added: “We will be celebrating the occasion with a gathering of close friends and family at the same house they have called home for all these happy years. I’m sure there will be many fond memories shared and a few glasses raised.”
Ken and Sadie have two Grandsons, Adam, 41, and Pascal, 25. Adam said: ”We couldn’t be more proud of Nan and Grandad. They are literally one in a million.”
Throughout his life, Ken worked at the GEC, whilst Sadie was a cook at the nearby Baginton Fields School and they spent many happy years in their chosen jobs. The couple, have quite an active social life and up until recently were active members of the Camping and Caravanning Club and spent many weekends travelling the country with their friends.
Adam added: “I hope I’m not spoiling a surprise when I say how, when arranging a card from His Majesty The King, we had to contact the General Register Office for a copy of their marriage certificate.”
He continued: ”The helpful chap assumed they were married in 1963 and seemed taken aback when I said, ‘No, 1953.’”
